Indexed Tuition

At Stuart Hall School, we believe the cost of tuition should not deter a qualified student from attending our School. We therefore offer a personalized, indexed approach to tuition setting. Your student’s tuition will be based on your family’s income and expenses and determined through a financial application process administered by FAST, an Independent School Management tuition service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Indexed Tuition?

Indexed tuition is an approach where tuition rates are customized according to each family’s ability to contribute to their educational expenses. Indexing puts a Stuart Hall education within reach of families from a range of economic circumstances.

Are Indexed Tuition applications confidential?

Yes, indexed tuition amounts are granted privately and confidentially. Administrators and staff members outside the Business Office and the Enrollment Office are not aware of your personal finances and do not make indexed tuition decisions. Therefore, we encourage families to speak only with those two offices concerning financial matters to maintain confidentiality.

What if my tax return for last year is not available by the deadline?

In this case, please be sure to submit your family’s most recent W-2 forms and a signed copy of your most recently filed federal income tax and corresponding schedules. Submit your return for last year as soon as it is available. Please note that all awards are based on last year’s return and are required submissions to complete the indexed tuition process. Keep in mind that if you use estimated return information, Stuart Hall still requires the actual prior year's returns when available.

Do I need to fill out one FAST application for each student I am applying for?

No, only one FAST application is needed per family, even if you have more than one child applying.

How do families with divorced or separated parents apply for Indexed Tuition?

Both custodial parents must complete the application through FAST. In the case of remarried parents, step-parents must be included in the financial aid assessment as well.

How is Indexed Tuition determined?

Stuart Hall partners with FAST to help us make fair and objective financial decisions. This third-party assessment uses a family’s financial information to provide an estimate of the dollar amount that each family can contribute towards a Stuart Hall education. After reviewing financial aid applications and tax documentation, the Financial Aid Committee convenes to assess family need in conjunction with available institutional resources.

Does Stuart Hall offer tuition payment plans?

Yes, we offer annual, semi-annual, quarterly, and monthly (domestic only) payment plans.

Are Indexed Tuition awards guaranteed for future years?

No. Families must re-apply for indexed tuition each year, and awards are subject to change in response to family finances and institutional resources. A continuous level of family qualification is necessary to retain indexed tuition awards.

Scholarship Opportunities

In addition to Indexed Tuition, Stuart Hall offers several scholarships to help offset the cost of tuition for eligible students.

The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation Scholarship

The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation was established by Lettie Pate Whitehead Evans, the wife of one of the original bottlers of Coca-Cola. Mrs. Whitehead went on to lead the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, and she dedicated herself to causes important to her, saying, “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.” One of Mrs. Whitehead’s passions was
education, and she established the Foundation to support the education of deserving female students with financial need.

Qualifications

The Amy C. Venable Scholarship Fund

The Amy C. Venable Scholarship Fund was established in 1971 by Lucy Dent Venable ’44 in honor of her mother. Ms. Venable established the scholarship fund initially to support the attendance of Black students with financial need. In the decades since, the
scholarship fund’s purpose was broadened to support the attendance of students from
traditionally underrepresented populations.

Qualifications

The Mission Scholar Program

This scholarship is a selective, mission-based scholarship opportunity that recognizes outstanding students applying for grade 9 or 10. Mission scholars expound a potential for making a significant contribution while attending Stuart Hall and later in life. The applicants must demonstrate the qualities of curiosity, creativity, or contribution as defined by Stuart Hall’s mission, and must commit to sharing those qualities with the School community. The applicants must demonstrate this experience and commitment in one or more areas of school life: academics, visual and performing arts, athletics, service, and leadership.

Qualifications:

If you believe you/your student is eligible for any of these scholarships, please contact the Enrollment Office for applications.
